Galle's Forgotten Citadel

The Portuguese Black Fort, located just outside the main walls of Galle Fort, is a lesser known yet historically significant site. Constructed by the Portuguese in the 16th century, it served as a strategic defence point. Although smaller and more weathered than the main fort, its dark stone walls and peaceful atmosphere offer a glimpse into Galle’s colonial past.

This experience is available to guests staying at Landesi Galle, approximately 0.30 kilometres away.
