Sustainability & Operational Policies

Sustainability Statement

At Nyne Hotels – Rock Villa, sustainability is at the heart of how we operate. We are committed to responsible hospitality that protects the environment, supports local communities, respects human rights, safeguards children, and promotes ethical tourism practices. Our sustainability programme is guided by annual assessments, measurable targets, and continuous improvement initiatives across all areas of our operations.

We are actively working to reduce our environmental impact through improved management of energy, water, waste, and greenhouse gas emissions. Using 2025 as our baseline year, we have established a target to reduce emissions related to energy, water, and waste by 20% by 2030. Our sustainability efforts include regular monitoring, energy and water efficiency improvements, waste reduction initiatives, renewable energy exploration, and staff and guest engagement programmes that encourage responsible resource use.

As a coastal property, we recognise the importance of protecting surrounding ecosystems and biodiversity. We support the use of native and drought-resistant plants, minimise pollution and harmful practices, encourage responsible guest behaviour toward wildlife and natural habitats, and avoid activities that exploit animals or damage ecosystems.

We are also committed to supporting local communities by prioritising local employment, working with local suppliers where feasible, and participating in environmental and community initiatives. Responsible purchasing practices are integrated into our operations to encourage ethical sourcing, reduced packaging, and environmentally responsible products and services.

Respect for human rights, fair employment, and child safeguarding are fundamental to our operations. We maintain safe and inclusive working environments, uphold fair labour practices, and maintain a zero-tolerance approach toward child exploitation and abuse. Our team receives ongoing guidance to support responsible and ethical workplace practices.

Through regular monitoring, annual sustainability assessments, transparent reporting, and measurable action plans, we remain committed to continuously improving our environmental and social performance. Our sustainability strategy focuses on practical, achievable progress that supports long-term positive impact for our guests, employees, communities, and the environment.

Environmental Policy

At Nyne Hotels – Rock Villa, we are committed to operating in an environmentally responsible manner while delivering meaningful and high-quality hospitality experiences. We recognise that our operations have environmental impacts, particularly within our coastal setting, and we are committed to managing these impacts responsibly through practical actions and continuous improvement.

We are committed to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions and improving operational efficiency across our property. Energy, water, and waste-related emissions are monitored regularly, and we aim to progressively reduce our environmental footprint through measurable sustainability initiatives. We encourage energy-saving practices among both staff and guests and prioritise reduction-focused strategies within our operations.

We recognise the importance of responsible water stewardship and are committed to improving water efficiency through monitoring, conservation practices, and responsible wastewater management. We also work to minimise waste generation through waste segregation, reduction of single-use plastics, responsible handling of hazardous substances, and recycling initiatives wherever feasible.

As a property located within a sensitive coastal environment, we are committed to protecting biodiversity and surrounding ecosystems. We aim to minimise activities that may negatively impact natural habitats, prioritise native and drought-resistant landscaping, and reduce the use of harmful chemicals where possible. Guests are encouraged to use reef-safe sunscreen products that do not contain ingredients known to harm coral reefs and marine biodiversity.

We also seek to integrate sustainability into our purchasing and operational decisions by supporting local suppliers, encouraging reduced packaging, and considering environmentally responsible alternatives whenever practical. Through staff engagement, guest awareness, and community participation, we aim to foster a culture of environmental responsibility both within and beyond our property.

We are committed to complying with applicable environmental regulations in Sri Lanka and continuously improving our environmental performance through regular monitoring, review, and ongoing management commitment.

Through regular guest feedback reviews, operational checks, performance assessments, and corrective actions where necessary, we remain committed to continuously improving our services and operational performance. This policy is periodically reviewed by senior management to ensure its continued relevance, effectiveness, and alignment with our organisational objectives.

Food Safety & Hygiene Policy

At Nyne Hotels – Rock Villa, we are committed to maintaining high standards of food safety and hygiene to protect the health and wellbeing of our guests and employees. We recognise that safe food handling is an essential part of responsible hospitality and quality service.

We comply with applicable food safety and public health regulations in Sri Lanka and follow recognised industry standards for food preparation, storage, and service. Structured procedures are implemented to minimise contamination risks, maintain proper temperature control, and ensure hygienic kitchen and food handling areas.

We are committed to promoting good hygiene practices among employees through food safety guidance, personal hygiene requirements, cleaning procedures, and safe food handling practices. We also work with reliable suppliers who meet our quality and safety expectations and ensure food deliveries are inspected and handled appropriately.

Sustainable Procurement & Ethical Sourcing Policy

At Nyne Hotels – Rock Villa, we are committed to responsible procurement practices that minimise environmental impact, support ethical business practices, and contribute to sustainable tourism. We recognise that our purchasing decisions influence environmental performance, community wellbeing, and social responsibility across our operations.

We aim to prioritise products and services that are locally produced, reusable, recyclable, energy and water efficient, and supplied with minimal environmental impact. Wherever feasible, preference is given to suppliers and products that support sustainability, reduce waste, minimise
pollution, and reflect local culture and heritage.

We are committed to ethical sourcing and fair recruitment practices throughout our supply chain. We do not tolerate forced labour, exploitation, child labour, or unethical recruitment practices, and we expect suppliers and partners to uphold recognised human rights and labour standards.

Environmental and social considerations are also integrated into renovation, landscaping, and operational decisions. We prioritise sustainable materials, native landscaping, biodiversity protection, and responsible chemical management while avoiding products and practices that may harm wildlife, marine ecosystems, or endangered species.

We are also committed to reducing single-use plastics and avoiding environmentally harmful substances wherever practical alternatives are available. Through regular review and continuous improvement, we aim to strengthen responsible procurement practices across all departments and supplier relationships.

Zero Single-Use Plastic Policy

At Nyne Hotels – Rock Villa, we are committed to reducing plastic pollution and minimising the environmental impact of our operations. As a coastal property, we recognise the harmful effects of unmanaged plastic waste on ecosystems, marine life, and local communities. Through this policy, we aim to progressively eliminate unnecessary single-use plastics and promote more responsible alternatives across our operations.

We are committed to reducing and, where feasible, eliminating items such as plastic straws, stirrers, single-use water bottles, individually wrapped amenities, and disposable plastic packaging. Wherever practical, we prioritise reusable, biodegradable, recyclable, or environmentally preferable alternatives.

We work closely with suppliers to reduce plastic packaging, encourage bulk purchasing, and identify lower-impact materials and solutions. Sustainability considerations are progressively integrated into procurement and operational decisions.

Where plastic use cannot yet be eliminated, we promote responsible waste management through proper waste segregation, recycling initiatives, and efforts to minimise landfill disposal. Employees are encouraged to actively support plastic reduction practices in daily operations
and identify opportunities for improvement.

We also encourage guests to support responsible consumption by minimising disposable plastic use and participating in waste reduction practices during their stay. Through regular review, supplier collaboration, and continuous improvement, we remain committed to strengthening our efforts toward a more sustainable and low-plastic operation.

Zero Tolerance Policy on Child Exploitation & Abuse

At Nyne Hotels – Rock Villa, we are fully committed to protecting children from all forms of abuse, exploitation, trafficking, and neglect. We recognise our responsibility as a hospitality provider to uphold children’s rights and maintain a safe and respectful environment within our property and surrounding community. This policy is guided by Sri Lankan child protection laws, the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC), and responsible tourism principles.

We maintain a strict zero-tolerance approach toward any form of child exploitation or inappropriate conduct involving minors by employees, guests, contractors, suppliers, or business partners. Our premises must never be used to support or facilitate unlawful or harmful activities involving children.

Any suspected or confirmed case of child exploitation or abuse is required to be reported immediately to senior management and referred to the relevant law enforcement authorities. Employees are expected to uphold child safeguarding principles, act responsibly and ethically, and report concerns without delay. Staff awareness guidance is provided to support vigilance and appropriate action.

We are also committed to responsible tourism practices by avoiding partnerships or activities that may contribute to child exploitation and by encouraging responsible guest behaviour. Through this policy, we reaffirm our commitment to safeguarding children, promoting ethical tourism, and supporting a safe environment for all.
